Upcoming Winter Storm

It looks like we are expected to be impacted by another winter storm. The good news is that snowfall totals are expected to be much lower than the last storm, however this system will bring dangerously cold temperatures and strong winds.

The storm is in effect from Saturday at 1:00 p.m. through Sunday at 1:00 p.m., with wind chills expected to drop below zero. A Wind Advisory will also be in effect from Saturday morning through Sunday night, with wind gusts between 30–50 mph that may bring down tree limbs and cause isolated power outages.

Light snow is expected to develop late Saturday, with minor accumulations possible. The combination of snow, strong winds, and very cold temperatures may create hazardous travel conditions and reduced visibility at times.

Residents are encouragedto limit outdoor exposure, dress in warm layers, and allow extra caution when traveling.

Emergency & Safety Information

  • Emergency calls should be made to 911 only. Calling the Fourth Precinct directly may delay response, as those calls are routed through 911.
  • Downed wires should always be treated as live. Stay as far away as possible and do not drive over or stand near them. To report a downed wire, call PSEG Long Island at 800-490-0075 or 911.
  • Electric current travels easily through water or wet snow. Avoid standing water, slush, or flooded areas. If encountered, stop, turn around, and choose another path.
  • Never use generators or gasoline-powered equipment inside your home, basement, or garage, or within 20 feet of any door, window, or vent. Always operate generators outdoors using a heavy-duty extension cord long enough to maintain a safe distance.
