JCC Launches Social Services Hub and Expanded Kosher Food Pantry in Cedarhurst

The Marion & Aaron Gural JCC announced the opening today of The S.H.O.P. (Sustenance Hope Opportunities Place), the largest free Kosher food pantry in Long Island. Supported by a generous donation of two Tons of Kosher for Passover food from Stop & Shop, and other contributions of food and money from many donors, the food pantry is prepared to offer sustenance assistance to local residents in need.

In short remarks at the opening ceremony, Mayor Ben Weinstock said that “Some people find it difficult to give. But everyone finds it hard to take. The food pantry makes it possible to accept help without compromising one’s personal dignity and self-worth.  The facility and program are designed to allow clients to “shop” for groceries discretely. They also offer clothing and on-site social work support services.”

The S.H.O.P. is a joint initiative of The Marion & Aaron Gural JCC and UJA-Federation of New York, and is supported by Community Chest South Shore.
