Update on PSEG Substation Upgrade Project

PSEG has recently sent out a letter of notification that the electrical substation on Pearsall Avenue is being upgraded and strengthened to make it more reliable and storm-resistant.  Super Storm Sandy caused a great deal of damage to the substation and exposed other vulnerabilities in the electrical grid serving Cedarhurst.

The Village worked cooperatively with PSEG to have our electric infrastructure brought into the 21st-century.  To that end, the substation on Pearsall is being completely replaced, and thousands of feet of new wiring will be set underground.  Much of the main overhead wiring is being replaced as well.

Although this will cause delays and difficulties when traveling on the affected roads during construction, the benefits will be worthwhile.  We will be rewarded with better electrical transmission, less fear of “going down” during a storm, and upgraded fail-safe circuitry. As an added bonus, the entire Pearsall Avenue will be repaved.

The project is moving along quite quickly and we anticipate completion shortly.
