LIRR Grade Crossing Project

The Long Island Rail Road recently informed the Village that work on two grade crossings on the Far Rockaway Branch will begin on October 12, 2017.  During this project, there will be alternate road access.  Please allow some extra time during your morning commute and proceed slowly and carefully around work crews for everyone’s safety.

Thursday, October 12, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM

  • Rockaway Turnpike Grade Crossing in the Village of Cedarhurst will be repaved and closed to road traffic.
  • During those hours vehicles will use the Lawrence grade crossing for alternate access.

Tuesday, October 17, from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM

  • Lawrence Avenue Grade Crossing in the Village of Lawrence will be repaved and closed to road traffic.
  • During those hours vehicles will use Rockaway Turnpike for alternate access.

While the work is in progress, the LIRR and its contractor will provide the necessary flagmen and crossing protection.  MTA Police will also be on hand as well to assist with local traffic control along with the LIRR Contractor.
