In a powerful display of unity and remembrance, the Villages of Cedarhurst and Lawrence gathered together in a powerful show of unity and remembrance during a parade and solemn service honoring those who gave their lives in service to our county. The parade route was lined with spectators, young and old, waving flags and paying tribute to our fallen heroes.
Following the parade, a poignant ceremony took place at the war memorial in Andrew J. Parise Park, Cedarhurst. Elected officials addressed the crowd, reflecting on the meaning of the day and expressing deep gratitude for the sacrifices made by our military service members. A moving wreath-laying ceremony was conducted by veterans of the American Legion Lawrence Cedarhurst Post 339 at the flagpole war memorial, symbolizing a collective gesture of remembrance and respect.
The ceremony concluded with a stirring rendition of “God Bless the USA” performed by students from Lawrence High School, whose heartfelt voices captured the spirit of the occasion.
Mayor Ben Weinstock delivered remarks that resonated with all in attendance. While emphasizing that Memorial Day is dedicated to those who paid the ultimate price, he took a moment to introduce two remarkable veterans in attendance: Marx Marcus, a 101 year old World War II veteran, and Domenic Crici, a 93 year old Korean War veteran. The Mayor thanked them – and all veterans present – for their enduring service and dedication to the country.
It was a day marked by reflection, gratitude, and a strong sense of community, reminding all present of the profound cost of freedom and the importance of remembering those who made it possible.
We would like to thank the American Legion Lawrence Cedarhurst Post 339, the Lawrence Cedarhurst Fire Department, Nassau County Police Department, Nassau County Auxiliary Police, 4th Precinct and all the schools, organizations, businesses, etc who participated in the parade and service.
Thank you to Lizaveta Getman and Bob Block for use of their photos.
