Village Court

YOU HAVE THE RIGHT:

1) As a defendant to plead “Guilty” or “Not Guilty” to the offense for which you have been charged.

2) To be represented by an attorney at each and every stage of this proceeding.

3) To an adjournment, if necessary, to obtain an attorney.

4) As a defendant, to demand a supporting deposition* upon a plea of Not Guilty to the simplified traffic information filed against you.

If you are in doubt as to whether you are guilty or are not guilty, the Court requests that you enter a plea of “Not Guilty” and require the People of the State of New York to prove their case against you.

if any questions arise in your mind about your case, or concerning the nature of the charge, or about the consequences of a plea of Guilty, please ask the Court for an explanation.

A plea of Guilty to the charge(s) is equivalent to, and the same thing as, a conviction after trial. If you are convicted, you will be liable to a penalty. In addition, your license to drive and your registration, if any, are subject to suspension or revocation as prescribed by Law.

NOTE: The State of New York has imposed taxes on all vehicle and traffic fines. You will be required, when paying your fine, to pay an additional $35.00 tax for moving violations and a $25.00 tax on equipment violations.

We do NOT accept personal checks or credit cards for the payment of fines.

You will NOT be permitted to enter Court unless you are properly attired. Tank Tops or Shorts are not permitted.

Thank You,

Sandi Gewanter, Court Clerk
